A lag test for gamers: ping, jitter and packet loss in 4 seconds

Rekt-al Net is a free online lag test. It measures the three numbers that decide whether an online game feels sharp or sluggish, against servers in 15 regions around the world, and then gives you a verdict: did you lose that fight because of your connection, or not?

  • Ping is the round trip time to the server. Under 60ms is good for every kind of game. What is a good ping?
  • Jitter is how much the ping jumps from one packet to the next. It causes rubber-banding even when the average ping looks fine. What is jitter?
  • Packet loss means data never arrives. Even 1% causes missing shots and teleporting players. How to fix packet loss
  • Bufferbloat is the extra delay when your line is busy, for example when someone streams. The Bufferbloat mode measures it. Bufferbloat explained

Three test modes

  • Quick: 10 pings in about 4 seconds. Run it right after the match that felt laggy.
  • Bufferbloat: pings once with the line idle and once while it downloads at full speed, and grades the difference from A+ to F.
  • Long: 60 pings over a minute, to catch lag spikes that a short test misses.

After the test you can compare Wi-Fi against a cable, challenge a friend to beat your ping, and share the result as a link. The link preview shows your verdict and connection rank in Discord, WhatsApp and on X.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is this ping test?

Browsers cannot send real ICMP pings, so Rekt-al Net times HTTPS requests to tiny health-check endpoints in AWS data centers. The result is usually a few milliseconds higher than an ICMP ping or your in-game display, because it includes a little server and browser overhead. For judging whether your connection is good enough to play on, that difference does not matter.

Why is my ping here different from my in-game ping?

The game server is not in exactly the same data center as the test server, and your route to each one can differ. Pick the region closest to where you play. If the test is clean but the game lags, the problem is the game server or your PC, not your connection.

What counts as lag here?

A ping of 60ms or more, jitter of 15ms or more, or any lost packet gives the verdict REKT-AL NET. In the Bufferbloat mode, 60ms of extra delay under load does too, and in the Long mode 3 or more lag spikes. Everything else is a SKILL ISSUE.

Can I test my console connection?

Not directly, since the test runs in a browser. Run it on a phone or PC on the same network and the same connection type (cable or Wi-Fi) as the console to get a good approximation.

How much data does it use?

The quick and long tests use almost nothing (a few kilobytes). The Bufferbloat mode downloads as fast as your line allows for a few seconds, up to about 120 MB, so avoid it on a metered mobile plan.

Is any data stored about me?

Rekt-al Net has no accounts and no cookies, and does not store your results. Your result only exists in the link you share, unless you leave the ISP leaderboard box ticked (then only your ISP, country and test numbers are added, never your IP). Anonymous, cookieless visit statistics run on our own server. Your browser remembers the last server and mode you picked, locally. The test requests go straight from your browser to AWS, which sees your IP address like any website you visit. Details are in the privacy policy.
